Racism. why is it? And furthermore, why is it Fashion? When I think about fashion, I think of the hottest pair of sunglasses, what new sneakers are out, or even what fine pieces of jewlery I can add to my ever-growing collection. Never however, does the notion of skin tone come to mine. Not once have I thought that complexion could tamper with the quality of a product. Unfortunately, in a recent article that I read on Refinery 29 where Naomi Campbell and Iman talked about racism, Iman boldy ousts during the interview many fashion houses with this possibly in mind." There were more black models on the runway when I started in the 1970's then there are today....the absence of models of colour sends a message...[ that we] are not good enough"--Evening Standard. She then from here goes down the list of well known designers like Calvin Klein, Chanel, Gucci (whom I have been to and love but not completely shocked), Victoria Beckham, and most notably Celine who have exhibited such actions. Celine, who has gotten rocked the mosts creator Phoebe Philo, is described as a "cool girl" but with this subject being the subject of discussion, she has yet to present her collection with a female other than white. This is something I was completely shocked by because I would have never thought this of Celine. Moreover, it is ashame considering her products are bought highly by women of colour.
For the life of me, I can never understand the mind of a racist or someone with a racist agenda in any form. There is no need for it. Fashion isn't about race. Rather it is about an individual being able to express themselves in whichever way the choose whether its in cultural fashions, street fashions, or something Avant garde. Everyone is beautiful and everyone is deserving and this shouldn't be tolerated. What do you think of this revelation? Are you surprised? Click the link for more.....
